Project s.t.e.p. is our city's response to addressing youth addiction. For the first time, youth will be able to enter 24/7 residential treatment without having to go to northern Ontario, out of the province or even to the US. They'll also be able to make informed decisions and get early counselling through an enhanced education and prevention approach in our high schools.
ByWard Market B.I.A. partners with project s.t.e.p.
The ByWard Market B.I.A. is pleased to announce its continuing partnership with project s.t.e.p for the year 2010, in support and recognition of the positive impact this initiative is having on our community.
The B.I.A. began its support with the decision to donate proceeds from its annual ByWard Market Stew Cook-Off in February to project s.t.e.p. The event was a huge success, raising a record $5,275.00, all of which was donated to project st.e.p.
“project s.t.e.p is providing a much needed service for our community,” says Jasna Jennings, Executive Director of the B.I.A.
project s.t.e.p addresses the need for residential substance abuse treatment, education and prevention for youth. It supports substance abuse education and prevention programs in high schools and supports specialized treatment and counseling in two 24-hour residential settings, one to serve Anglophone youth, run by The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre, and one to serve Francophone youth, by Maison Fraternité.
“Thank you to the ByWard Market B.I.A. for this show of support. They know more than most how important this project is to the community,” says Ottawa Police Chief Vern White, project s.t.e.p. honourary co-chair and champion.
The B.I.A.’s next initiative in support of project s.t.e.p. will be the ByWard Market Auto Classic. The 14th annual classic car show will be held this year on June 6, from 10 am – 3 pm. Classic cars will be parked in various locations throughout the Market and visitors are encouraged to tour the Market to see classic Corvettes, Jaguars, Volkswagens and more, and enter the Scavenger Hunt to win great prizes. All proceeds from the event will be donated to project s.t.e.p.
